The Queen Mother wasn't renowned for her comedy, in fact most people can barely remember ever hearing her talk, this led to the inspired comedy voice on Spitting Image. Spitting Image used caricature latex puppets to perform satirical sketches about them. The series ran between 1984 and 1996. The Queen Mother was mostly voiced by Steve Nallon and the inspired part was using the voice of actress Beryl Reid, a Birmingham actress, the sketches generally increased the popularity of the Queen Mum who is said to have had a sense of humour and is reputed to have been prone to doing the odd Ali G impression around the Royal dinner table.
